As wildfires continue to impact our region, we are calling on individuals to join our Just-in-Time Volunteer Team—a group of on-call, short-term volunteers ready to assist with urgent tasks related to disaster response and recovery. Your time and energy can make a direct difference to those affected by the ongoing fires.

Role Summary:
As a Just-in-Time Volunteer, you will provide critical support for disaster response efforts, including helping those displaced by the active wildfires in Los Angeles County. This is a temporary, as-needed role, perfect for individuals seeking to contribute in impactful ways during this time of crisis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with resource distribution (e.g., food, water, and essential supplies) to evacuees and responders
  • Collecting and organizing supplies for affected families and emergency teams
  • Participating in cleanups of burn sites to help with recovery and rebuilding efforts
  • Assisting with evacuation shelter setup and operations for displaced residents
  • Providing transportation support for supplies or personnel (must meet vehicle requirements)
  • Helping manage volunteer check-in and coordination at staging areas
  • Offering administrative support for fire response operations
  • Supporting community outreach efforts, including distributing recovery and safety information
  • Participating in post-disaster assessments, including documenting damage from the ongoing fires
  • Engaging in event or fundraiser support for disaster relief initiatives

Requirements:

  • Must be local to Los Angeles, CA and not subject to an evacuation order.
  • Flexible availability to respond on short notice during emergencies
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding or changing conditions, including smoky or hot environments
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and direction from team leaders
  • A positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed

Preferred Skills (not required):

  • Experience with logistics, organizing events, or supply chain coordination
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery efforts
  • Valid driver’s license (for transportation-related tasks)
  • First Aid & CPR certification

Commitment:
This is a temporary, as-needed role, with volunteers contacted based on wildfire and disaster response needs. While there’s no set minimum time requirement, we ask for reliability when called upon.
